Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know about learning with OBODO. Can't find your answer? Send us a message and we'll help.
General
What is OBODO?
OBODO is an interactive app for learning Igbo and Yoruba through live lessons with a tutor, engaging exercises and cultural insight.
Who can use OBODO?
It suits learners of all ages, from complete beginners to advanced speakers looking to sharpen their fluency.
Is the app available on iOS and Android?
Yes — OBODO is available on both iOS and Android, as well as here on the web.
Account and subscription
How do I create an account?
Sign up with your email address, either in the app or on this site. We'll send a one-time code to confirm the address, and then you can pick your language and plan.
What subscription plans are available?
There is a free trial plus paid plans that add more live lessons each month, access to all learning materials and personalised feedback from your tutor. You can see the current options on the plans page.
How do I change or cancel my plan?
Go to Settings → Subscription and choose Manage billing. That opens our secure billing portal where you can change plan, update your payment details, download invoices or cancel. If you've paid but your plan isn't showing, use Refresh subscription on the same page. If you subscribed through the iOS or Android app, cancel from your app store account settings instead.
Lessons
How do lessons work?
You're matched with a tutor and book live one-to-one sessions from your dashboard. Pick a date, choose an available time, and your lesson is confirmed straight away. Times are always shown in your own timezone, which you can change in Settings.
How many lessons do I get?
Your plan includes a set number of lessons each month. Anything you don't use rolls over to the following month, and your profile shows both figures — the allowance for this month and the amount rolled over.
What if I miss a class?
Life happens. To be fair to both you and our instructors, missed classes roll over to the following month and must be taken during that month while your subscription is active. Any unused rolled-over classes expire at the end of that month.
Can I reschedule or cancel a lesson?
Yes. Open the lesson from your dashboard and use the options menu to reschedule or cancel it before it starts. Cancelling frees up the slot for someone else.
What are bonus lessons?
Bonus lessons are free 60-minute sessions on top of your plan. You earn them by referring friends, and we also gift them during special campaigns. When you book, you'll be asked whether to use a bonus lesson or one from your plan — unless you only have bonus lessons, in which case one is used automatically.
Bonus lessons are one-off, so they can't be rescheduled. If you need to move one, cancel it before it starts (which returns it to your balance) and book a new time.
How does referring a friend work?
Every learner gets a referral code. Share your link from the Refer a friend page and the code fills in automatically when your friend signs up. Once they subscribe to a paid plan, a free class is added to your balance.
Learning features
What learning method does OBODO use?
A mix of live tutoring, audio lessons, quizzes and interactive exercises, so you practise listening and speaking rather than only reading.
Can I track my progress?
Yes. Your dashboard shows your learning streak, completed lessons and goals so you can see how far you've come.
Does OBODO teach culture as well as language?
Yes. Lessons include cultural notes and context, because the language makes far more sense alongside the customs and history it comes from.
Is there a place to practise with other learners?
Yes — there's a community space in the app, plus social groups where learners encourage each other and practise together.
Troubleshooting
The app isn't working — what should I do?
Try restarting the app or your device, and make sure you're on the latest version. If the problem continues, contact our support team and tell us what you were doing when it happened.
The audio isn't playing — how do I fix it?
Check that your volume is up and your device isn't muted or in silent mode, and see whether other apps have sound. If it's only OBODO, get in touch.
I can't record voice notes.
Voice notes need microphone access. Allow the microphone permission for OBODO in your device or browser settings, then try again.
How do I report a bug or suggest a feature?
Use the feedback option in Settings, or email us directly — we read every message and genuinely do act on suggestions.
